NWS issues high Wind Warning for Cape Cod and Islands

The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Warning for Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard, and Nantucket from 5 AM – 10 PM Sunday. A strong storm is forecast to pass close enough to Southern New England to bring the potential for 55-65 mph wind gusts to those areas in that timeframe. The rest of coastal Southern New England is in a Wind Advisory with the potential for some 45 mph wind gusts on Sunday. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for Southeastern New England.  See the text below from the National Weather Service.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN TAUNTON HAS ISSUED A HIGH WIND
WARNING...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 5 AM TO 10 PM EST SUNDAY.

* LOCATIONS...CAPE COD AND THE ISLANDS.

* WINDS...NORTHWEST 35 TO 45 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 55 MPH.

* TIMING...SUNDAY MORNING THROUGH LATE SUNDAY EVENING

* IMPACTS...STRONG GUSTY WINDS COULD RESULT IN SCATTERED POWER
  OUTAGES WHEN COMBINED WITH THE SNOW. THESE WINDS COULD ALSO
  RESULT IN BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW WHICH WOULD RESULT IN
  REDUCED VISIBILITY AT TIMES.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A HIGH WIND WARNING IS ISSUED WHEN SUSTAINED WINDS OF 40 MPH ARE
EXPECTED FOR AT LEAST AN HOUR...WITH GUSTS OF 58 MPH OR GREATER
AT ANY TIME.  DAMAGE TO TREES...POWER LINES...AND PROPERTY ARE
POSSIBLE WITH WIND OF THIS MAGNITUDE. POWER OUTAGES ARE LIKELY.
TAKE ACTION NOW TO SECURE ANY LOOSE OUTDOOR OBJECTS.
