Event Forecast: NewportFed Pie Run

The Newport Running Club’s annual NewportFed Pie Run will be held at 8:30 am on Thanksgiving morning. The weather shouldn’t be a huge factor in this year’s 5 mile run or 3 mile walk. Skies will be mostly cloudy, and the temperature will be in the low 40s at 8:30 am for the start of the race at the Newport County YMCA.

The persistent north-northeast wind will continue through Thanksgiving. In Middletown, the wind should be 10-20 mph, and it will be a head wind for the runners coming down Paradise Ave onto Hanging Rock Rd. near the midway point of the race. The wind will be at the runners backs when they are making their way up the largest hill in the race from Paradise Ave on to Purgatory Rd. Runners will encounter another head wind for the final half-mile of the race on Aquidneck Ave and Valley Rd.

The 5 mile USATF sanctioned road race and 3 mile non-competitive walk starts and ends in front of the Newport County YMCA, 792 Valley Road, and is a scenic course with panoramic views of Sachuest Beach. Entrants are asked to bring one non-perishable food item to be contributed to a local food bank.
